Can the library tell me the value of particular artworks or prints?

Answer

The library is not able to provide valuation information for art. If you'd like to find out what your artwork is worth, you should contact an art appraiser. A good place to start is the website for the American Society of Appraisers, where you can search for someone in your area with art expertise.

  1. From this search page, enter your location.
  2. In the "Discipline" dropdown menu, choose "Personal Property."
  3. From the "Specialty (Optional)" menu, choose "Fine Arts."
  4. Click the "Find Appraisers" button.
For a do-it-yourself answer, consider consulting price guides for current auctions sales. Your local library may have a selection of these in their holdings. Examples include: Art Sales IndexDavenport's Art Reference and Price GuideADEC: International Art Prices, etc.
