What happened to the reference desk on the third floor?

Answer

Beginning in the 2023 fall semester, Lauinger Library will move to a single service desk model on the third floor, combining the reference and circulation desks into one service point at Circulation.

This new single service desk provides users with immediate answers to their questions about research support, equipment and technology, policies, locating a book, and library hours.

For reference and research-related questions that require more in-depth subject knowledge, users will be directed to Research Services librarians for consultations via chat or in-person meetings.

By creating a single service point on the third floor, the Library extends the availability of library support during the operational hours of the service points and offers patrons a convenient, easily accessible point of contact for their inquiries. Moreover, this streamlined arrangement enables us to better address the needs of our users.

This change will not affect the service desk of the Booth Family Center for Special Collections, which will remain open.
