I have a print/paintings/piece of fine art. How can I learn how much it is worth today?

Answer

The library is not able to provide valuation information for art. If you'd like to find out what your artwork is worth, you should contact an art appraiser. A good place to start is the website for the American Society of Appraisers, where you can search for someone in your area with art expertise.

From this search page, first enter your location.
Then, in the "Discipline" dropdown menu, choose "Personal Property."
Next from the "Specialty (Optional)" menu, choose "Fine Arts."
You can ignore the other search options; just click the "Find Appraisers" button.

For a do-it-yourself answer, consider consulting price guides for current auctions sales. Your local library may have a selection of these in their holdings. Examples include: Art Sales Index, Davenport's Art Reference and Price Guide, ADEC: International Art Prices, etc.

Good luck with your research!
