Are the materials and equipment in the Maker Hub free?

Answer

Georgetown students, faculty, and staff can use the equipment in the Maker Hub at no cost, and the majority of the materials and consumables are free to use in reasonable amounts.

Using large quantities of supplies may require the user to pay a small fee or provide replacement materials. These policies are enforced on a case-by-case basis, however there are some general guidelines we follow. For instance:

  • If you want to make more than 100 buttons with our button makers we ask that you purchase extra supplies
  • Printing on the FormLabs 2 printer costs $25 for every 50 ml of resin used in the print
  • Each spool of PLA filament costs between $20-$30
  • Each full sheet of MDF costs about $5

If you are considering taking on a larger Maker Hub project, it is recommended that you contact makerhub@gerogetown.edu to discuss your specific needs.
