How do I associate my new (or existing ICPSR) account with Georgetown University?

Answer

In order to download many datasets from ICPSR, users must:

  1. Have a personal account on the ICPSR website and,
  2. Have that account affiliated with Georgetown University as an ICPSR member institution.

For the initial ICPSR account setup and at least once every 6 months thereafter, users must log in to their ICPSR accounts while either

  1. on-campus and connected to the wired or wireless (SaxaNet) networks, or
  2. through the proxied ICPSR links on the library's A-Z Databases list (recommended only for account setup and association).

Other connections to ICPSR can be made directly through the ICPSR website (without being on-campus or through a proxied URL) and the user's account will remain associated with Georgetown University's institutional account for a period of 6 months.

To create an account:

  1. Go to the ICPSR website.
  2. Click on the blue "Log In" button in the upper-right.
  3. Select the "Sign in with email" option. Do not select "Access through your institution".
  4. On the log in screen, click the "Set up a new account" link.
  5. Set up your ICPSR Researcher Passport using your Georgetown email address.
