What is Digital Rights Management, or DRM?

Digital Rights Management (DRM) systems control what a user can do with copyrighted materials when they are borrowed or after they are sold. DRM systems can control viewing, copying, printing, and altering of works to protect the copyright holder's intellectual property. Some library e-books use DRM systems (such as Adobe Digital Editions) to limit or restrict these actions by borrowers. The library does not control the allowed and disallowed actions for secured e-books.
