May I read a library e-book on my tablet/e-book reader/smartphone?

Answer

It depends. (What an awful answer...) The publisher or provider may allow for this functionality. Here's how to find out:

  • Read the help documentation where you found the e-book. Check to see if it addresses downloading materials for use offline.
  • If you can download the book to your computer, what file format is the e-book in and is that file format supported by your device?
  • Does the e-book require Adobe Digital Editions, or another form of digital rights managment software?
  • If you're using a smartphone, do you need an app to read the e-book?
