I am getting the message "File missing: docs/suspend.htm" or "Download Limit Reached" when trying to use databases. What does this mean?

Answer

The above error message is displayed when a user downloads excessive amounts of material in a short space of time from our electronic databases or journals. We cap the amount of material downloaded in a single session to prevent excessive downloading by robots or malicious actors.  These restrictions are necessary because of our license agreements with our vendors.

When you see this message, it means you have exceeded one of our two download limits. If you download more than 350MB in 30 minutes, your connection will be suspended for about an hour. After that point, you should be able to resume research. If you download more than 2GB in 60 minutes, your account will be permanently blocked until you contact the Electronic Resources & Serials Unit and we can investigate the incident.

If you have special research needs that require a large amount of downloading, please contact the Electronic Resources & Serials Unit.
