How do I reauthorize my ArcGIS Desktop (ArcMap) software annually?
Answer
Before Starting
- ArcMap will no longer be available as of December 17, 2023 and a new authorization file will not be available for download. This is due to Esri retiring the ArcMap product. Please begin transitioning to ArcGIS Pro or ArcGIS Online.
- Note that this process must be completed upon installation and on an annual basis. In January of each year, download a new authorization file from the Library's website, as indicated below, and repeat this process. Your software will stop working if this process is not completed annually.
Reauthorizing Software
- Download the authorization file from the Library's website. Make sure that you download the authorization file that covers the next 12 month period.
- Save the file to a convenient location on your computer, such as your Desktop.
- Locate the saved file and double-click the icon to open it.
- The ArcGIS Authorization Wizard opens. Proceed with the authorization process according to the initial authorization instructions.
Reauthorizing through ArcGIS Administrator
- If the above process does not work, reauthorize your software through ArcGIS Administrator.
- Open ArcGIS Administrator. It can often be found at Start Menu > All Programs > ArcGIS > ArcGIS Administrator.
- In the file tree on the left side of the window, select Desktop.
- Click the Authorize Now... button.
- This opens the ArcGIS Software Administration Wizard. Proceed with the authorization process according to the initial authorization instructions.
Confirm your Software's Authorization
- Open ArcGIS Administrator. It can often be found at Start Menu > All Programs > ArcGIS > ArcGIS Administrator.
- In the file hierarchy, click on Availability under Desktop.
- The table that appears should show an expiration date of "17-Dec-20XX" indicating when the software will expire.
