My book is unavailable, how can I gain access without a GW account?

The book I want says it is only accessible to GW students and will not let me request to view despite it being online. Book info: Recruiting : proven search and hiring practices for the best talent / William T. Mallon and R. Kevin Grigsby.

Answer

Hello!

Unfortunately, due to licensing agreements, electronic books are not accessible across institutions. This means that even though the book is online and we have an agreement for print books with GW, you will only be able to access it physically on the GW campus.

It appears that this particular title has some further restricted circulation on the GW campus. The Himmelfarb library, GW's medical library where this book access is from, limits the use of its physical space, so you would not be able to access the material there. (https://himmelfarb.gwu.edu/about/access.cfm)

Seeing as this book is only available online and is held at a small number of institutions, you may find that we cannot provide access. The strategies I would suggest are to: 1) work with a faculty member and contact Himmelfarb to see if there is anyway that an exception could be made,  2) try to make a general request through Interlibrary Loan (https://illiad.library.georgetown.edu/illiad/logon.html), and/or 3) contact the appropriate librarian to see if a purchase could be arranged. Seeing as the book does not have a physical version, I do not believe that Interlibrary Loan will be successful, but you can always send in the request and hope.

Please let us know if you have further questions or want to see if we can find alternative materials.
