What does it mean if a book is listed as "on hold"?

Answer

This means that someone has "recalled" the book.  The researcher who currently has the book will receive an email message notifying him/her that another researcher (unnamed) needs the book.  When the book is returned, the person who placed the first Hold/Recall will get a message stating that s/he can now borrow the book.  Once that researcher has finished with the book (for a maximum of 4 weeks), the next researcher will receive an email saying that the book is ready to be borrowed.

Sometimes this may take a while.  So please click on the Can't Find It link from the library's homepage to learn how to obtain the book another way.  (You'll click on the "Request a Book" tab to see the steps.)
