Answer

According to John Daley's book "Georgetown University: Origin and Early Years" the first tract of land was purchased by John Carroll for 75 pounds from Colonel William Deakins, Jr. and John Threlkeld.
If you're interested in reading more about GU's history this is a good book and an easy read. We also recommend Robert Curran's "A History of Georgetown University" as the most thorough book on GU.
