Where was Father Martin O'Gara SJ coming from when his plane crashed on 1 June 1946?
I am interested in Fr. O'Gara's whereabouts in India... if he is the same person, on 25 March 1946 he was in Ithinda (West Bengal), on the border with Bangladesh. Of my O'Gara I only know that he was a military chaplain. Can you help me? By the way, if its him, than he was a Jesuit, but of which province? I know it was Neb. (but what does Neb. stand for?) Thank you!

I find in the 1945 Jesuit catalogs that Martin O'Gara was a member of the New York province, born Apr 2, 1907, entered Jesuits on Sept 7, 1926, did not have final vows in 1945. Again in 1945 he was Listed as a military chaplen (not suprising that no location was listed in or coming out of a war) therefore we know that he was ordained by 1945). The Jesuit catalog gives no further information on him, There might be some information in Woodstock Letters which you might want to check out at in our periodical stacks.
